Thirty-two bits of information

You wake up.

Still blurry, you happily consider trying to sleep some more. Because you can, no alarm yet. Unless you forgot to set it up. But that almost never happens. Not worth the trouble to check if…

And then you remember you were kidnapped, and realize you can’t move.

You explode with adrenaline, and fear, your eyes snap open, you look around and see nothing, it’s dark, but you have to do something. And everything comes back, the truck, the accident, your guards getting shot,
and what to do, who are they, what, what the fuck?!

So you stop. Stop. Calm. Take a deep breath. Focus. Relax. Let everything calm down. Deep breath. All is fine. Now, just think about how to fuck. What. To. Do. Clam. Fuck. Calm! …

Okay.

Deep breath.

You know where you are. The GPS device… thing, your ankle bracelet, it’s shaking. Every second or two, it’s… yes! A small shake. That means it’s activated, oh thank god, oh thank god it’s working! Oh yes. So help is on the way. It is. Yesss… You close your eyes, take deep breaths, and luxuriate in happiness. It takes long seconds for the fear to come back, from the pit of your stomach. Nagging you. Gradually pulling you back into distress. You were kidnapped, intentionally taken somewhere, you can’t move, it’s dark, and…

Two deep breaths.

Okay. What happened? Your last memory is of… everyone getting shot? Did they … die? What… Oh god. Oh…

Deep breath.

Okay. Err… Where… are you? It’s… Oh yes, the bracelet! The shaking, it should be the GPS location, in binary. Every few seconds, a smaller or larger shake. Just wait and… no. You don’t know binary. Stupid! Why didn’t you learn binary?! But… it’s just… numbers? So maybe you can try to… Oh. You don’t know GPS. So… yeah. You don’t know where you are.

So, just wait for the help. Hopefully nothing bad will happen until then. Well, how long were you out? When… will the kidnappers come? It’s going to be fine. Right? If the device works, help is on the way… Right? … But what if it doesn’t. What if the internet of the device didn’t work? What if you just wait here, trying to stay calm, but no one knows where you are…?

Deep breath.

No. You need to be smart. You need to think. Because no one coming to save you.

Deep breath.

Or maybe someone is coming, maybe, but how will you know? So assume no one. No one is coming. Take that small hope in your heart, extinguish it. Assume the worst. If they know where you are, which they don’t, they will come here anyway. Which they won’t.

Breath.

They don’t know where you are. Because you will never know if they do. They. Don’t. Know.

Breath.

Now, You have to communicate, the binary stuff,

Breath.

somehow, to everyone, so they know where you are.

Breath.

Or you die.

Breath.

Breath.

Okay.

* * *

“What?! But… Why? Why would anyone do that?! You were on the fucking way! Why?!”

“Well, he… he said he wasn’t sure the GPS was connected, and, he, well, he wanted to communicate the GPS coordinates, to let us know where he is. Communicate, in, eh… in any way possible.”

“Oh. Well… fuck!”
